Stages of Recovery
Acute
Phase
This phase involves moderate to severe swelling, as well as pain and limited range of motion, strength, and function. This phase requires physician supervision. Primary concerns are managing inflammation and preventing further injury.
Medical providers in this phase include physicians, physical therapists, and chiropractors.
This phase is not appropriate for post-rehab.
Subacute
Phase
In this phase, swelling and pain are minimal to moderate. Range of motion, strength, and function are returning, but full recovery has not occurred. This is the remodeling phase for connective tissue. Exercise is introduced in this phase.
Continued care from the physician, physical therapist, and/or chiropractor is important in this phase.
You may be eligible for post-rehab with a doctor's approval.
Chronic
Phase
Swelling and pain are decreased, and strength and flexibility are returning. Function is now the focus of the program. Exercise is key in return to full function and is the primary method of treatment.
You continue to receive care from your doctor, and we become part of the rehab team.
Post-rehab training is now appropriate, with a doctor's approval.
Professional Roles in the Rehab Spectrum
Physician
acute, subacute, and chronic phases
The role of the physician is to diagnose and treat disease, write prescriptions, perform surgery, and read x-rays. Physicians specialize in a wide range of areas, and usually have minimal expertise in exercise prescription.
Physical Therapist
acute, subacute, and chronic phases
The physical therapist evaluates and treats the dysfunction associated with diseases of all human organ systems. The use of light, heat, water, ice, electricity, ultrasound, massage and exercise are all included in the PT practice.
Post Rehab Professional
subacute and chronic
The post-rehab professional assesses and develops programs for clients with residual functional deficits remaining after treatment by their doctor and physical therapist. Emphasis is on improving function.
Our Mission
To improve people's lives with exercise and pain-free movement.
We often hear from clients that flare-ups kept them from exercising on their own. However, movement is essential to condition management, injury recovery, and good health. We provide you the support you need to reap the benefits of exercise.
PREHAB AND REHAB
Focus on Function
This function wheel identifies the nine key components of function. These components are impaired with daily strains, injury, surgery and the onset of many conditions.
Our conditioning and rehabilitative programs are designed to improve these components of function and enhancing your functional capacity.
